26th January 2001 – the first Republic Day of India of the 21st Century. The place – Ahmedabad. The time – 8.46 a.m. Republic Day Celebrations were to begin soon. My daughters, Manju and Samyukta left home an hour earlier as they were to look after the arrangements in their respective schools. My wife and I were alone in our flat.
