Parents, Children And Education

To widen the horizons of wonder should be the main aim of education.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba

The wonder of seeing a kingfisher hover over a pond; the early morning sun shining on the iridescent feathers of the tiny (two inches!) purple sunbird; watching the bas relief of elephants and gods on an ancient temple come alive at dusk…all this was possible when seen through the unblemished eyes of a child…proving beyond all reasonable doubt the existence of Divinity and the Divine creation.

Therefore as parents we should first unclutter our minds and purify it. We should first successfully integrate spiritual life with earthly life and only then can we proceed to protect our children from the prevailing culture, a culture which Swami points out, is steeped in materialism and is antagonistic to leading a truly Spiritual Life.

Thus as we engage in this sacred task in earnest, continuing our own spiritual studies and practices, our minds become free and pure and our actions begin to vibrate in tune with our thoughts. All of this sets a proper example and environment for our children. With Swami’s grace, raising children in this manner becomes a great Sadhana.
