Topic: The "Monkey Mind" (Example)
When Swami talks to youth, he frequently refers to the problem of "The Monkey Mind". This week, we pose the following questions:
1. What is "The Monkey Mind"?
2. What problems does it cause for us?
3. What can we do to control it?

I think one of the main problems associated with the monkey mind is a never ending desire for material things. I think living in such a materialistic society we may have a tendency to feel that
something's which aren't really necessary are basic. I like buying nice clothing, most of which could be bought cheaper, if I chose to buy non-brand-name stuff. Looking at this totally critically, I am submitting to my monkey mind and not exhibiting a ceiling on desires. So the question buried here is what standards do we use to judge ourselves by when those around us (Western friends) may be setting poor examples? For example, we may think that we don't spend a lot compared to our friends, but is this a reasonable comparison in this society?
